Temporary interior done

One day in this cars life time i will take it to an upholestry shop and have them completely re-do it nicely.

This is just temporary stuff because i cant take the sound / melting tar from the headers anymore.

Painted the floors with latex exterior primer mixed with microspheres, its basically paint on sound deadner.

Got some on the wires and stuff, but i dont care they wont be seen.

The only part i missed up on is i got some of it on the weather strip.. i'll have to go back and paint it with black paint to hide the fuck up.. no big deal

Racecar interior

Got some insulation foam from home depot, the stuff they use on interior carpets.

It makes a good padding and will help with the sound & cabin tempature even more. Cost me 13$

Next part is the velour fabric i bought, i got 4 square yards from joanne fabrics for 27$

The glue was 20$ a can.. 3M godlike spray on adhesive, my friend brendon got it discounted to 24$ for 2

Brenden also helped me put all this shit in, it took about 2.5 hours total, lots of spray gluing and fitting, but it came out great.

I might do the rear hatch like this too.

I need to finish glueing the fabric up towards the firewall, it was getting dark so we stopped.

Next day i used the old carpet as a template for a piece of hard cardboard to glue the sound deadner & Velour to, i had to cut it in sections so it kinda looks fucked up, but i don't care i can live with it for now.

I still need to get a few plastic pieces for the hatch area of the interior, also the fit isn't perfect but it cuts down on the noise ALOT

You can see one of panels here, its not that bad IMO.

The back part will be covered up by a plastic trim piece some day, they're retardedly expensive so i will most likely get it when im finishing up the car.

A deer hit my car,

I hate deer.

I braked and missed the first one coming from the beach, the second one RAN INTO MY CAR WTF?!

Fucking deer, i'm not that mad about the dent.. mostly the fender flare because i can't buy them single, sold in sets only.

Took the flare off, the deer bent the original flare back in on itself.

I was able to pound the upper dent back into shape, lower one was a pain in the ass.

It came out okay, lots of little bumps from the hammer, but bondo will fix that

I didn't take a picture, but i used a wirebrush to take down all of the paint in the effected areas down to the metal

Lots and lots of sanding

Getting there slowly.

Finising up with glazing putty

Not perfect, the extreme lower portion of the car still has a small dent to it, i can't pound it out without cutting the quarter panel off the car.. i was going to build up the bondo but in the future it would look terrible.

Its okay for now, maybe one day i will get it pulled professionally with the proper puller ( i dont own one)

Also the fender is still damaged, i fixed what i could.

Brake calipers.

My right front caliper kept seizing on me after i drove it for a few miles.  It was pissing me off so i bought a replacement one.

You can see the hyper extended piston.. it refused to retract, even on the vice!

2 days of driving 2 miles round trip to and from work.  I had to limp the car and used engine braking to stop.

New vs old.

This is what the left side looked like.. all shitted up. The new one was a grey color.

I cleaned them both off with brake cleaner and got all the crud off them.

Painted them red, because red brakes stop faster.

I never took a picture but the paint around the sumitomo was covered up in the end.. i didn't like the silver showing through, it was to small to notice.

So much brake dust.

Funny enough after i replaced all of this, including the hardlines it seized up again.

i was mad.

it ended up being a 10$ soft brake line hose, no problems ever since. But i guess it was still a good idea to replace everything anyways for peace of mind.

Bodywork part 2

Started out with this, didn't care to much about the masking on the doors because i would be painting them later today, Just didn't want to get anything on the chrome / glass

Started sanding

Looked like this mid way, dust everywhere. Shit sucked.

Started priming the roof and hatch

50% done

Finished the hood  / fenders / roof.

i didn't take any pictures because its kind of tedious to stop and take them

Need to finish the passenger side door and the ass end of the car

Had someone on 4chan /p/ Make an HDR image for me, looks like it came out of a video game.

Long overdue update

Well here comes a long story.

Put the exhaust in, fixed most of the vacuum leaks (i still need an AFM boot)

We attempted to fire it up, it was not getting any power to the coil. After 10 hours of wire trace i found that it was the ignition module wiring, the previous owner messed with it and it was wrong.

Ended up getting 12.6v to the coil, and got the car to start. It ran very bad, it sounded like it was firing on 3cylinders. Check out the video.

Anyways, after checking for good compression, fuel it had to be spark. Every plug was replaced and eventually gapped, all of the wires were checked, everything was secure. It still sounded like shit!

Opened up the distributor and found out that the reluctor inside it was FUCKED, it was all chewed up. $120 got me a new distributor and it fired right up, but eventually started to run poorly again... Annoying.

After checking everything over again i decided to buy a new cap and rotor (which i should have done in the first place, but i'm an idiot.

It ended up like this video.

After checking every injector clip over multiple times, cleaning corrosion off of everything it still would not idle properly, it was driving me insane.

But eventually i fixed it, and it's embarassing what it was.

There are two harness' to the thermostat housing, both of them were loose. I took my extra (cut wiring harness) and took off the injector hold down clips, and put it on the thermostat plastic harness (they injector clips work MUCH better, they are stronger too)

And what do you know, it fixed all of my troubles.  Sorry about the dark video, but this is how late it was when i finally fixed the idle

Its got a decent knock in the #5 cylinder, i will be getting the valves adjusted as soon as the gasket comes in.

Moving on:  I started the body work on the car, its just alot of bondo + sanding + filler putty + primer so im just going to post some pictures.

before

Tomorrow i will begin the hatch roof and doors.
